This red ball is a true Icon and has become a key part of the American roadside.
This one came off a working gas station rotating pole from Orange County, CA. The ball is comprised of thin plastic.
Little History:
Mr Ray Pedersen created the design in 1955 for the Seattle World’s fair. Subsequently it was then introduced in 1962 at service stations throughout California.
About 10yrs ago these spheres were being disposed of. Only a few remain in operation. This is, in no small part due to the fight and efforts put through www.savethe76ball.com campaign. Folks felt that it was a disgrace to erase such a beautiful iconic sphere from history.
Only a few balls remain in private hands. Some ended up in local los Angeles museums and the rest…who knows. Don’t let this one slip away!! Add it to your garage or collection of Americana.
